2003 startete die erste Staffel von America’s Next Topmodel, die von dem ehemaligen Topmodel Tyra Banks ins Leben gerufen wurde. Sie war die Schöpferin des Wettbewerbs, dessen Ziel es war, das nächste Topmodel zu finden.
2005 rief ProSieben junge Mädchen dazu auf, sich für den Titel Germany’s Next Topmodel zu bewerben. 2006 wurde die erste Staffel ausgestrahlt. Das Konzept wurde aus den USA übernommen und von Heidi Klum moderiert. Nach hervorragenden Quoten folgte 2007 bereits die zweite Staffel, diesmal mit dem Zusatz „by Heidi Klum“, was den gestiegenen Einfluss des deutschen Topmodels verdeutlichte. Bis 2010 orientierten sich die Staffeln, sowie die Anforderungen an die Kandidatinnen, die Shootings, Walks und Entscheidungen, stark an ANTM.
Nachdem die Quoten 2010 während der fünften Staffel nicht an die früheren Erfolge anknüpfen konnten, wurden einige Veränderungen eingeführt. So verkündete Heidi Klum die Entscheidungen nicht mehr mit versteinerter Miene vor dem Jurypult und stimmte sich auch nicht mehr mit den anderen Juroren ab. Seitdem trifft Heidi die Entscheidungen in der Regel alleine und verkündet diese sitzend auf einem Regiestuhl.
Besonders durch die starke Orientierung an ANTM konnten einige der dortigen Shootings auch bei GNTM umgesetzt werden. Diese Parallelen fielen mir besonders auf, als von 2007 bis 2011 die ersten Staffeln aus den USA auf dem deutschen Musiksender VIVA ausgestrahlt wurden.
Im Folgenden habe ich zehn Shootings zusammengestellt, die im Rahmen der beiden Shows durchgeführt wurden. Ihr könnt die direkten Unterschiede in den Produktionen sehen, die durch die Models, Fotografen, zeitliche Unterschiede, die Bearbeitung und das Styling beeinflusst wurden.
Es wurde immer die gleiche Anzahl an Bildern gewählt. Die Auswahl basiert auf meinem subjektiven Geschmack und folgt der chronologischen Reihenfolge der ANTM-Shootings.

ANTM vs. GNTM – Shoots in comparison
In 2003, the first season of America’s Next Top Model was launched by former top model Tyra Banks. She created the competition with the goal of finding the next top model.
In 2005, ProSieben called for young girls to apply for the title of Germany’s Next Topmodel. The first season aired in 2006. The concept was adapted from the USA and hosted by Heidi Klum. After excellent ratings, the second season followed in 2007, this time with the addition „by Heidi Klum“ highlighting the increased influence of the German top model. Until 2010, the seasons and demands on the candidates—such as the shoots, walks, and decisions—were still heavily based on ANTM.
After the ratings for the fifth season in 2010 failed to match earlier successes, some changes were introduced. For instance, Heidi Klum no longer announced decisions with a stoic expression while standing before the jury panel and stopped coordinating with other judges. Since then, decisions have generally been made by Heidi alone and announced while she is seated on a director’s chair.
Due to the strong orientation towards ANTM, some shoots were also implemented in GNTM. I was particularly struck by these parallels when the first seasons from the USA were broadcast on the German music channel VIVA from 2007 to 2011.
Below, I have compiled ten shoots from both shows. You can observe the direct differences in the productions, which were influenced by the models, photographers, time differences, editing, and styling.
The same number of pictures has been chosen for each shoot. The selection was made based on my subjective taste and follows the chronological order of the ANTM shoots.

Which shoot do you like best?
America’s Next Topmodel was discontinued in 2018 after 24 seasons, while Germany’s Next Topmodel entered its 20th season in 2025.
